⋗ elijah andrew desrosier was born the bastard son of catherine desrosier and andy beckman after a spontaneous affair erupted between the waitress and the married business man.
⋗ growing up without a father was sometimes difficult for elijah. it left something to be desired as far as a father figure and general companionship went, especially with his mother working so desperately to make ends meet, he hadn't really anyone to confide in.
⋗ because of it, elijah (or more commonly known as eli nowadays) grew up rather independent. he learnt from an early age how to care for himself - from making his own breakfast, lunch, & dinner to going to school when his mother was too tired to take him.
⋗ given his familial situation, elijah had a difficult time with gaining self-confidence and trust. he had desperately wondered about his father, but his mother wouldn't share in detail about him. and no matter how she tried to explain to him that his being absent was not any of his fault, elijah had a most difficult time believing it.
⋗ he sought out role models to fill the void that his father had left & as he grew older, he vowed to himself that he would find the man and tell him what he really thought of him. he had a speech prepared since he was 16, but it wasn't until his mid-twenties did he finally convince his mother to tell him who he was so that he could go to find him.
⋗ approaching his father was nerve-wrecking, to say the least. he had anticipated a sort of knockdown dragout argument, but found the complete opposite. instead, he found a brother, of around the same age & a woman that accepted him as her own despite the circumstances that brought him to their doorstep.
⋗ it took awhile, but elijah began to grow into the person he had always dreamt of being. he had a family, or something like it. he had a brother, someone that he had always wanted. and though the two found each other in adulthood, they made up for lost time and grew rather close to one another.
⋗ at age 30, elijah had quite a bit of traveling under his belt, but eventually settled in new york. he went from squatting, to couch surfing, to finally saving enough money, from various odd jobs and sales of his photography, to get his own place. west village became home to him, even if at heart he was a bit of a nomad. he had even convinced his mother to move to new york so that the two (and his half-brother) could be closer together.
⋗ elijah has now been living in west village for almost 10 years now - even co-habitating with his half brother in the same building. the two of them are particularly close & enjoy spending time with one another. a dream that was wholeheartedly fulfilled the day he knocked on his front door.
⋗ personality: elijah is a bit of a free spirit. he enjoys traveling and meeting new people and though sometimes he can be extremely blunt and sarcastic, he's a genuinely good person and looks out for people, especially his friends and family. he enjoys and appreciates art in most every expression of it there is & even dabbles in it himself. a natural for photography, elijah also considers himself to be a musician. he fronts a musical group as rhythm guitarist and lead vocalist - at least when he's not busy with his full-time job.

⋗ is kind of dreading his 40th birthday this year. it'll officially be pushing him over the hill & he doesn't want to be that old. he's not ready for it. especially because his mother has been nagging him about giving her grandchildren ever since he turned 35.
